EDITORIAL: DESAFÍOS DEL MERCADO LABORAL EN LAARAUCANÍA El El más reciente informe del Termómetro Laboral pone nuevamente en evidencia una realidad preocupante para La Araucanía: el desempleo en la región supera con creces el promedio nacional.
La tasa de desocupación regional, que alcanza el 10,7%, contrasta marcadamente con la cifra nacional de 8,7%. Este aumento en el desempleo responde a una “transición” en la fuerza laboral, donde más personas especialmente mujeres y jóvenes han pasado de no estar activamente buscando empleo a hacerlo. Sin embargo, el mercado laboral no ha sido capaz de absorber esta nueva demanda, generando una presión insostenible en la búsqueda de trabajo y limitando las oportunidades para quienes buscan insertarse en el mundo laboral.
Uno de los aspectos más alarmantes es que la tasa de participación laboral en La Araucanía se sitúa en un modesto 55,7%, mientras que la tasa de ocupación apenas alcanza el 49,7%, ambas cifras por debajo del promedio nacional. Esto refleja una menor actividad laboral en la región, lo que agrava las dificultades para el crecimiento económico.
Además, las brechas de género persisten, y no solo en cuanto a la participación laboral, donde las mujeres registran un 46,7% frente al 65,3% de los hombres, sino también en la ocupación, con una diferencia aún más pronunciada: 41,0% en mujeres contra un 59,2% en hombres.
Esta desigualdad de género en el mercado laboral no es solo una cuestión de cifras, sino de impacto real en la vida de miles de mujeres que, a pesar de estar capacitadas y listas para trabajar, encuentran menos oportunidades o se ven forzadas a ingresar a empleos de menor calidad. La tasa de informalidad laboral, que en La Araucanía alcanza un preocupante 37,7%, es otro indicador de los problemas estructurales de la región.
Esta cifra es considerablemente superior al promedio nacional del 27,6% y afecta de manera desproporcionada a los grupos vulnerables, como los jóvenes (35,4% de informalidad juvenil) y las personas mayores, quienes presentan una alarmante tasa del 62% de empleo informal. La consecuencia de este fenómeno es clara: empleos precarios, sin acceso a la seguridad social ni estabilidad laboral, lo que perpetúa un ciclo de pobreza y falta de oportunidades. Aunque algunos sectores económicos, como el comercio y la construcción, han mostrado un crecimiento anual del empleo, con un7,4%yun 16% respectivamente, esto no ha sido suficiente para revertir la tendencia general. Al mismo tiempo, el sector Silvoagropecuario, tradicionalmente uno de los pilares de empleo en la región, ha experimentado una caída del 3,9% en comparación con el año anterior. Este decrecimiento, sumado a la contracción en los sectores de Salud y Educación, que lleva tres trimestres consecutivos de caída, añade más incertidumbre sobre la capacidad de la región para recuperarse. El informe subraya, además, la naturaleza estacional de muchos de estos cambios, vinculados al período invernal, lo que subraya la necesidad de soluciones de largo plazo. La Araucanía no solo enfrenta un desafío coyuntural, sino también estructural.
Mejorar la empleabilidad y la calidad del empleo en la región requiere políticas públicas decididas, que aborden la informalidad laboral y reduzcan las brechas de género, además de fomentar el desarrollo de sectores más dinámicos y sostenibles. En definitiva, el mercado laboral de La Araucanía está en una encrucijada. La región no solo necesita más empleos, sino mejores empleos, con derechos, seguridad y estabilidad. Sin este enfoque, las cifras de desempleo seguirán siendo una señal de alerta y no una excepción pasajera..
