“La noche estrellada”, pintada por el artista holandés en 1889 y expuesta en elMOMA de Nueva York, re-medir el movimiento atmosférico del cuadro, pero síla escala y el brillo de las pinceladas para examinar las características atmosféricas invisibles en el cuadro.
“Con una imagen digital de alta resolución, pudimos medir con precisión el tamaño de las pinceladas y las 14 formas arremolinadas en el cuadro para, posteriormente, compararlas con las escalas reales esperadas a partir delas teorías físicas de la turbulencia”, explica uno de los autores, el investigador de la universidad de Hong Kong, Yongxiang Huang. El análisis mostró que el cuadro se ajusta a la llamada ley de Kolmogorov, que predice el movimiento atmosférico y su escala en función de la energía medida.
Al profundizar en el microcosmos de las propias pinceladas, donde el brillo relativo se difunde por todo el lienzo, los investigadores observaron también una alineación con la escala de Batchelor, que describe las leyes dela energía en las turbulencia del cielo que sigue al mo-vimiento atmosférico.
“La precisa representación que hace Van Gogh de la turbulencia indicaría que había estudiado el movimiento delas nubes y la atmósfera, o que poseía un sentido innato de cómo captar el dinamisconcluye cielo”, mo del Huang. 03presenta un cielo azul ondulado con luna y estrellas amarillas.
El cielo aparece representado en el cuadro como una explosión de colores y formas, en las que se observa a las estrellas amarillas encapsuladas en las ondas del cielo y brillando con la luz cual reflejos en el agua.
Las pinceladas de Van Gogh crean una ilusión de movimiento del cielo “tan convincente”, señalan los investigadores, que les llevó a preguntarse hasta qué punto se ajusta el cuadro a la física atmosférica de los cielos reales.
