Chilehaus

Chilehaus no es un coloso frío e indiferente, es un velero misterioso, que tiene varias puertas de entrada y todas ofrecen algo llamativo, como figuras geométricas, gárgolas, cóndores, y el escudo de Chile a gran tamaño. La belleza de este edificio se puede apreciar mejor caminándolo, sentarse en sus patios interiores y observar asus habitantes o transeúntes con la calma que ofrece la protección de ese gigante deladrillos pequeños.
Con la declaratoria del 5 de julio de 2015 del área de Speicherstadt y el barrio de Kontorhaus con el edificio Chilehaus incluido, como patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco, no cabe duda que el nombre Chile resuena aún con mayor intensidad en mundo, como si fuera una campana náutica en la proa de un clipper salitrero, Este 2024 se cumplieron cien años de, posiblemente, eledificio más emblemático delo quefue el ciclo del salitre a nivel mundial, me refiero al Chilehaus. Es muy difícil expresar con palabras precisas la magnificencia de este coloso de ladrillo debido lo extraño que resulta a comprender las razones de sus medidas, porque parecen sobredimensionadas. Ocupa un área de 5950 m2 y su altura supera los diez pisos de altura. Tiene la forma deun clipper de cinco palos, en un color moro homogéneo que brilla con el sol del verano como si estuviera navegando en medio de un océano de cemento.
Chilehaus está rodeado deotros edificios de similar tamaño que siguen el mismo estilo llamado expresionismo en ladrillo, común en la década de los años veinte, La pregunta que surge es si el Chilehaus siguió una tendencia ya existente en el barrio Kontorhaus, o, por el contrario, fue el primero en establecer la moda en el puerto de Hamburgo. Hay fotos en que seobserva solo, sin vecinos, y una imagen vale más que mil palabras.
El mérito de escoger ese estiloes seguramente para el arquitecto alemán Fritz Hóger, pero los honores principales son para Henry Sloman, un salitrero queinició sus actividades como empleado dela casa Fólsch y Martin en Tarapacá, para después transformarseen el más prominente empresario del cantón Toco.
