Los investigadores observa-ron estas estructuras solo engrabaciones del hipocampo y no en otras regiones como la amígdala y las áreas corticales dellóbulo frontal. HALLAZGO SORPRENDENTESe trata de un “hallazgo sorprendente”, ya que durante mucho tiempo se ha considerado que el hipocampo es el lugar del cerebro donde se plasman los mapas neuronales de los espacios físicos. Los nuevos datos demuestran que el hipocampo también puede construir mapas cognitivos relacionados con funciones cerebrales como la inferencia y el aprendizaje.
Además, los voluntarios queaprendieron lasreglasasociativas entre imágenes y botonessólo con instrucciones verbales, y noen virtud de laexperiencia de ensayo y error, forjaronlas mismas “representaciones neuronales bellamente estructuradas enel hipocampo”. “Nuestro trabajo muestra quelas instrucciones verbales dan lugar a representaciones neuronales estructuradas muy similares las que resultan del aprendizaje experimental”, aclara Rutishauser.
