ZONAS EN RIESGO POR SUBDIVISIONES EN LOS LAGOS Un algoritmo de machine learning permite identificar patrones de subdivisión predial en la región de Los Lagos, que podrían poner en riesgo a zonas de alta relevancia ecosistémica y predios con potencial agrícola y poner en riesgo la calidad ambiental de la región.
El estudio, desarrollado con datos históricos de 2002 a 2021, fue realizado por Jorge Herrera, estudiante de doctorado de Ingeniería en Sistemas Complejos de la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias de la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez e investigador de Data Observatory, junto a los académicos Mauricio Galleguillos, académico de la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias UAI e investigador titular de Data Observatory, y Marco Pfeiffer, académico de la Facultad de Ciencias Agronómicas de la Universidad de Chile y publicado por la revista científica internacional "Landscape and Urban Planning". "Oobservamos que hay zonas calientes o de alta subdivisión desde 2002, entre ellas Castro, Calbuco, Puerto Montt y Frutillar, y la predicción muestra que se refieren a territorios con alta relevancia ecosistémica, como puede ser la cercanía a parques, reservas y bosques nativos, así como suelos con potencial agrícola, que presumen un daño multisistémico al suelo, biodiversidad, o en sus recursos hídricos", explica Jorge Herrera. Los investigadores recomiendan el uso de este tipo de algoritmos para una planificación territorial sostenible y responsable, dado el contexto de cambio climático y los factores asociados a la degradación del suelo y los ecosistemas. El algoritmo podría aplicarse en otras regiones del país y puede alimentarse con datos abiertos de todo tipo, entre ellos medioambientales, actividades económicas y datos demográficos.
